The Mercedes-Benz LIB48 with MCU - TC277 and EEPROM 95M01 is a 48V lithium-ion battery system used in modern Mercedes-Benz mild-hybrid vehicles, including certain W167, W205, W213 and W222 models equipped with M256 or M264 engines.

Following a collision, severe voltage drop or electrical short circuit, the Battery Management System (BMS) may enter a locked state, with fault information stored in the 95M01 EEPROM. Depending on the fault, symptoms may include:

- A “Battery Malfunction” warning.

- Fault codes such as B1833xx.

- The vehicle failing to start.

- The 48V battery refusing to charge.

- A “No Communication” message on diagnostic tools.

Two problems — one simple solution

1. Battery locked after an accident
The LIB48 battery remains locked following a collision, preventing the vehicle from starting.

2. Charging disabled after a voltage drop
Following a severe voltage drop, the LIB48 battery no longer accepts charging and may prevent the vehicle from starting.
